Exploring Our Shared Humanity Through The Stories We Tell
About Humantheon
Stories are all around us, found in every culture and woven into the fabric of our daily lives. From ancient tribal tales illuminated by fire to the epic cinematic experiences we enjoy today, they inspire us to conquer our fears, open our hearts, and pursue our dreams. But the ocean of story reaches far beyond the shores of mythology and fairy tales. Our civilizations, religions, and greatest accomplishments are fueled by them. They are the conduit through which our ideas spread, bring us together, and give us meaning. Infused into everything we do, they reflect not just who we are, but who we want to become.
Through Humantheon, we embark on a journey to explore the transformative power of stories, while celebrating the shared humanity that connects us all.
Who We Are
JEREMY LEE SHRANKO was captivated by storytelling at an early age. An imaginative childhood led him into acting, theater, and filmmaking. But a trip to Europe and North Africa, explored through the lens of a camera, revealed an equal passion for travel and documentary photography. That space between imagination and reality, fiction and nonfiction, is where he has lived creatively most of his life. After losing his mother to cancer, he started to dig deeper into why we tell stories. The universal need to make sense of our lived experiences, and to reflect our deep inner mysteries, inspired him to combine his two loves into one project, Humantheon. He is a father, husband, and advocate for the unifying power of storytelling, and has taken this message into both schools and juvenile detention centers to help others tell their stories.
GRACE JUNOT has never known a time when stories haven’t factored largely in her everyday existence. Raised by parents who came from very different communities (Cajun and Chinese), but with similarly strong oral traditions, she grew up on a steady diet of tales. This swirling mix of lore from seemingly disparate communities made one thing very clear to Grace at an early age; stories are where people place their dreams, fears, beliefs, and aspirations. She has carried a reverence for them to this day. In her imaginings, she has been: Peter facing the wolf with his pop-gun, Anne getting tipsy on Marilla’s cordial, and Amelia excavating ancient Amarna. In everyday life, Grace is a mother, wife, and actor.
